A Post-chanukah thought
Leaving Chanukah Behind?
Chanukah is now behind us.
It is important to realize that even if someone might not have felt that special spark, that inspiration this Chanukah, It is not over yet.
We are now in the month of Teves. While Teves seems to be a dark spiritual month, Teves is related to the word "Hatavas haneiros". The Kohen would clean out the neiros, the wicks that were no longer ignited. What did he do? He would light them again. That is really in essence what we need to do now that Chanukah is over.
Hopefully Chanukah gave us a light and inspiration that will enable us to approach the last few months of winter and illuminate that darkness. But in case for whatever reason it is, you did not have a meaningful Chanukah and you were not inspired, you have the opportunity to do it all over again. That is why the month of Teves comes after the month of Kislev. It symbolizes Hatavas haneiros, cleaning out the candles and beginning anew. Hopefully IY"H you are able to start that new lighting period and perhaps you won't be placing that menorah in the window, but you will place that flickering flame inside your neshama, heart and soul with inspiration throughout the coming cold and dark months ahead.
